The utmost goal of ancient Greek education was the balanced development of body and mind. Young men engaged in physical activity at the Gymnasium and the Palaestra so as to be vigorous and sturdy; yet, at the same time, for the ancient Greeks, sports denoted the respective moral cultivation.
