Attic red-figure lekythos

Trainers and paidotribes stand out in the iconography of ancient art, as the himation they wear is in stark contrast with the nudity of the youths during their training.

In the body of the vase is depicted a young trainer to the right, clad in himation. He is shown standing next to a small stepped pillar (pessiskos) holding in his right hand a long, forked stick, a typical implement of his profession.
