Attic red-figure kylix with everyday scenes from palaestra

The palestra is indicated by an Ionic column, while objects, used in the context of sports, together with sandals are hanging on the walls.

On one side of the vase, the attention of the young athlete holding a strigil is focused on his fellow athlete, who is preparing to throw the javelin.

On the other side of the vase, a youth assists his companion in preparing for his training session by holding out the aryballos to him. The second man, who has just undressed, will compete in javelin, as indicated by the javelin propped behind him.

The preparation and exercise of the youths are carried out under the supervision of men wearing himation, the paedotribes (trainers). In fact, their depiction in long garments is in stark contrast to the nudity of athletes.
