Attic red-figure kylix depicting scenes of athletic training

The space of palaestra is denoted as a stoic building with the presence of an Ιonic column. On the walls, on both sides of the vase, equipment such as strigils, sponge and a pair of sandals, is hanging, denoting training areas.

On the one side of the vase, two men are engaged in wrestling. The age difference is indicated by depicting the one with a beard while the other one is beardless. Possibly, the most experienced man guides his fellow athlete, by introducing him to the secrets of the sport. A young man, clad in himation, watches the wrestling attentively with a stick resting on his shoulders.

On the other side, a young long-jumper is training under the guidance of his paedotribes (trainer), while a second naked athlete, leaning on a short staff, attentively spectates.
