Sacred Truce (Ekecheiria)
Pausanias reports that during his visit to the temple of Hera, he beheld the discus of Iphitos inscribed with the text of the famous truce that guaranteed the smooth running of the Games. The text of the agreement was written in a circle, following the round shape of the discus.

So far, the discus has not been recovered. The various reconstructions of its form and content are inevitably based on hypotheses. However, even though the archaeological evidence has not been preserved, tradition has kept alive through the centuries the most important of all Olympic ideals, and that is peace through sports —a timeless and universal aspiration. speak icon
