Votive Relief with representation of an athlete

The athlete wears a long himation leaving the upper part of the body uncovered, held in a knot on the left elbow. He holds an olive wreath, a symbol of his victory in athletics. The lips are full and open with a smile, giving the face an expression of slight contempt. Based on the treatment of the nose and ears, he possibly represents a boxer. The letters “ΔΑΙΔ”, engraved on his chest, testify to his origin from the city of Daedala in Lycia, on the coast of Asia Minor, which was at that time part of the Rhodian Perea.
