Attic black-figure cup depicting a chariot race

On the exterior, on both sides of the vase, within the handle zone, a chariot speeds to the left between two horizontal palmettes. The bearded charioteer, wearing a long chiton belted at the waist, leans forward in the two-wheel car holding the reins and a whip as he urges his horses to run faster.

The rim of the cup is decorated with palmettes alternating with lotus flowers, while on its interior, inside a medallion surrounded by a myrtle wreath, Herakles fights Nessos in the presence of Deianeira.
